Iffraaj’s star son Ribchester, who was crowned the European Champion miler of 2016, repeated the accolade when given a rating of 124 in the recently published World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.
The winner of the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois as a three-year-old, he added three more brilliant top-flight victories last season, starting with a near four-length victory in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May. Better was yet to come, as he broke the course record when landing the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot before taking the Prix de Moullin de Longchamp an Chantilly in September. Up 2lb from his 2016 mark, he is also Timeform’s top European miler with a rating of 129.
He becomes the first European horse to win back-to-back titles since Frankel achieved the feat in 2012/13.
Nominations Manager Eamon Moloney was full of praise for the Richard Fahey-trained colt “Since arriving at Kildangan Stud he has been wowing visitors, growing in stature week by week. A brilliant athlete with plenty of scope, his stride needs to be seen to be believed. It really is a pleasure to have a horse of this calibre based here in Ireland.”
