While the European flat season may now be drawing to a close, Iffraaj’s current crop of two-year-olds are certainly not winding down for the year yet, with the Dalham Hall Stud resident recording no fewer than 10 two-year-old winners during October.
They are headed by Thrilla In Manila, who earned a rating of 93p for his first-time-out victory over six and a half furlongs at Newbury on Friday, 26 October. Richard Spencer’s charge (who was bred by Peter Winkworth) showed a great deal of promise when sweeping to the front under minimal pressure and should be one to look out for next year.
A day later, Muchly won at the same course (this time over a mile) to record her maiden victory. She has now been rated 82p, winning more easily than the neck margin would suggest.
The Irish-bred Argyron now has two straight wins to his name this month, most recently at Saint-Cloud where he was a full six lengths clear of his nearest rival, a field that included three previous winners.
Another Iffraaj juvenile to add a second win to her record is Lola’s Theme, who was successful at York earlier this month, while Next Factor won at Chantilly before finishing a creditable fourth in a nine-furlong Listed contest on his next start.
Iffraaj’s tally of 10 two-year-old winners in October can only be beaten by two other European stallions in Lope de Vega and Dubawi, while he is ahead of Dark Angel, Galileo and Charm Spirit.
