No Evidence Needed for this mare
Having eight months off the race track due to injury, five-year-old Shamardal mare No Evidence Needed produced an outstanding effort to score first-up in the G3 Southern Cross Stakes over 1200m on February 25 at Rosehill Gardens, Australia.
Leaving the gates well for Singapore-based jockey Joao Moreira, No Evidence Needed sat just off the pace in third on the rails. As the field fanned rounding the home turn, the mare raced through a gap along the fence to take the race by one-and-a-half lengths from Neeson, and dual G1-winning Dubawi mare Secret Admirer working home well for third. It is likely that the mare will target the G1 Coolmore Classic at the same track in two runs time.
Bred by Bart Cummings, No Evidence Needed is out of the G2-performing Generous mare Generosa and comes from the family of Stakes-winning Elusive Quality gelding Related. Generosa was covered by Street Cry in the spring at Darley's NSW-based property Kelvinisde.
The sire of 33 Stakes winners including G1 winners Lope de Vega, Casamento, Faint Perfume, Captain Sonador and Zazou, Shamardal is standing the current breeding season at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for €50,000.
