Night Of Thunder sired a new Stakes winner on Saturday, 9 July when his two-year-old son, Isaac Shelby, battled out a thrilling finish to claim the G2 Superlative Stakes over seven furlongs at Newmarket.
Isaac Shelby, owned by Manton Thoroughbreds VII, travelled just off the leaders for most of the race and under jockey Sean Levey, he challenged for the lead under two furlongs out and in a head-to-head battle with Godolphin's Victory Dance (Dubawi) in the closing stages he held on to score by a head.
Trained by Brian Meehan, the chestnut colt was stepping up in class on only his second start, having been an impressive three-and-a-half length winner on his debut at Newbury at the end of May. The G1 Dewhurst Stakes in the autumn looks a possible target for this smart colt.
Bred by Elaine Chivers, Isaac Shelby is out of the unraced Heliostatic mare, Kentucky Belle, herself a half-sister to US G2 turf winner, Ramazutti.
Night Of Thunder, who earlier in the week sired new Stakes-winner, Thunder Beauty, is enjoying a successful season, which so far include fellow Group-winners, Highfield Princess and Lola Showgirl, and Rumbles Of Thunder who added a third Stakes win to her record earlier in the season.
