Sopran Basilea, a three-year-old daughter of Night Of Thunder, added a first Group victory to her record on Tuesday, 12 October when striking in the G3 Premio Verziere at Capannelle, Rome.
Settling near the rear of the field, the filly kicked on willingly when asked to run on going into the home straight, winning the contest by a length in the hands of Carlo Fiocchi.
Sopran Basilea also triumphed in the Listed Premio Mario Incisa in Milan this May and was unlucky on her first start in Group company when finishing less than two lengths behind the winner to finish fourth in the G2 Premio Oaks d’Italia.
Bred in Ireland by Aidan Sexton, the filly is a daughter of the King’s Best mare Kathy Best, who is a half-sister to three Stakes winners including Italian G3 scorers Kathy College and Kathy Dream. She was purchased at Goffs Ireland November Foal Sale in 2018.
Night Of Thunder has sired 12 individual Stakes winners this year, headed by G1 winners Thundering Nights and Kukeracha.
