Showing electric pace from the stalls, Shamardal’s stunning juvenile filly Lumiere gained a priceless G1 victory on Saturday 26 September when landing the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Soon at least two lengths clear of the field, she was challenged coming into the dip before showing great grit up the final climb to the line to record a half-a-length victory.
Always well regarded by her trainer Mark Johnston, she was a debutant six length winner on Newmarket’s July course before a fine second behind today’s rival Besharah in the G2 Lowther Stakes.
A Darley homebred who runs in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Lumiere is a daughter of Screen Star (Tobougg), who recorded a remarkable Timeform rating of 110p when winning her only career start. Screen Star also has a yearling colt by Exceed And Excel, a full sister to Lumiere born in March this year and has been tested in foal to Authorized.
Shamardal has now sired 14 top-flight winners including another G1 winning juvenile in Casamento, whose first crop are yearlings and have already sold for up to €283,000 and are averaging nearly ten times their conception fee.
