Three-year-old Shamardal filly Lumiere (pictured), winner of last year’s G1 Cheveley Park Stakes, bounced back with a bang at Newmarket’s July course on 7 July when running out the six-length winner of the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes.
Prominent throughout under Joe Fanning, Lumiere was asked to quicken once approaching the two-furlong marker and soon put the race to bed as she eased clear of her rivals to win easily.
Trained by Mark Johnston, Lumiere won by the same margin on her two-year-old debut – also at the July meeting – and was second in the G2 Lowther Stakes on her next start before beating a strong field in the Cheveley Park.
Lumiere is the second winner out of the winning Tobougg mare Screen Star, who has a yearling full-sister to this talented filly and has been scanned in foal to Golden Horn this year.
Shamardal has now sired 14 individual Stakes winners so far this year, headed by G1-winning duo Tryster and Dariyan, plus the hugely talented Usherette – due to run in tomorrow's G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.
