Kukeracha outstays Premier’s Cup rivals

Third win in Stakes company for sun-loving son of Night Of Thunder

Kukeracha again showed his liking for the Queensland sunshine when he notched this third Stakes victory and gave his Irish sire Night Of Thunder another Black Type winner at Eagle Farm.

Winner of the G1 Queensland Derby and the Listed Tails Stakes in Brisbane, Kukeracha added the G3 Premier’s Cup over 2,400m on Saturday, 27 May.

Courtesy of a copybook ride by champion jockey James McDonald, Kukeracha edged out Serpentine and Kalapour in a tight finish to take his record to five wins and nine placings from 33 starts.

The five-year-old gelding also burst through the million-dollar prize money and bonuses barrier and has now banked A$1,038,665 under leading trainer Chris Waller.

Kukeracha is out of the American broodmare Portrait Of A Lady, who is also the dam of two-time Stakes winner Cameo.

The mare has a weanling colt by Too Darn Hot and was covered by Pinatubo last November in the southern hemisphere.

Kukeracha joined Isaac Shelby (G3 Greenham Stakes, Newbury) and Fix You (Listed Polonia Stakes, Cork) as Stakes winners for their sire over the past five weeks.

Night Of Thunder was a dual G1 winner, finishing his track career with a record of four wins and four placings from just 11 starts. He has sired the winners of 594 races, including 34 winners of 61 Stakes races.
