Neon Light, a two-year-old daughter of Refuse To Bend, landed Baden-Baden’s G3 Preis der Winterkonigin on just her second start on Sunday. Elle Shamardal, by Europe’s leading first-season sire Shamardal, was second in the mile contest.
Bred by Pavel Kusmin, Neon Light is out of No Merci (General Assembly) and was a wide-margin winner on her debut at Dusseldorf just a fortnight ago, scoring in the 1500m Frankenheim Alt-Pokal by eight lengths.
She is one of ten black-type performers for her sire, including Group Three winner Grace O’Malley, Listed winners Alaiyma and Mibar and the Group-placed juvenile Fantastico Roberto.
Shamardal, sire of the runner-up, has had 20 individual first-crop winners in Europe this year, including Group Three winners Shakespearean and Arctic. His first southern hemisphere crop are now three-year-olds and include Saturday’s VRC Derby favourite Shamoline Warrior.
