In Italian kicked off her five-year-old campaign in style when cruising to a three-length, wire-to-wire, victory in the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday, 15 April.
The five-year-old Dubawi mare earned her third G1 victory in the Jenny Wiley, to go with wins in the G1 Diana Stakes and G1 First Lady (also at Keeneland) last year.
Making her first start since finishing second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf last November, In Italian went straight to the lead right out of starting gate. It was apparent very early in the race that the result would never be in doubt, as the chestnut mare cruised around the Keeneland turf course with her ears pricked, eventually crossing the wire the easiest of winners. With The Moonlight was second, and White Frost came in third.
Bred in Great Britain by Fairway Thoroughbreds, In Italian is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Florentina, winner of the G3 Gold Coast Guineas and second in the G2 Furious Stakes in Australia. Florentina, a half-sister to G1 WATC Railway Stakes winner, Gathering, is also the dam of G2-placed Villa Carlotta (by Street Cry) and Stakes-placed Fasano (by Lonhro).
Champion sire Dubawi has so far sired nine Group winners this year. So far this season he’s been represented by his multiple G1-winning son Lord North, who landed his third consecutive G1 Dubai Turf at Meydan and the promising Never Ending Story, winner of the G3 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown.
