Earthlight, a two-year-old son of Shamardal, was an impressive winner of the Darley Prix de Cabourg at Deauville on Sunday, 28 July. Tracking the leaders, jockey Mickael Barzalona asked for improvement two furlongs out with the unbeaten colt duly obliging, scorching clear to win by four lengths.
A Godolphin homebred, Earthlight is the first foal out of the G1 placed Winters Moon, a daughter of New Approach. She is a half-sister to the G1 winners Wavering and Mandaean out of the G3 Prix des Reservoirs winners and G1 Prix Saint-Alary placed Summertime Legacy (Darshaan). This is the family of G1 Derby victor Golden Fleece.
It has been an outstanding year for Shamardal who has sired 14 Stakes winners this season already including G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Castle Lady and the sensational dual G1 winning Royal Ascot sprinter Blue Point.
