First-crop sire Slade Power sired a potentially very smart juvenile winner when Hesslewood made a perfect introduction at York. Trained by James Bethell and conceding experience to some already decent performers, he quickened up the nearside to win going away by one length.
Bred by Nesco II, he is son of the winning Arch mare Rochitta, who has already produced a winner and is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Lord Admiral.
Slade Power has now sired three winners including Godolphin’s Strings Of Life, who holds an entry next week at Royal Ascot in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes. The very promising Spell, who was third on her debut at Ascot before running with credit in the Listed Marygate Stakes, has also been entered at Royal Ascot in the G3 Albany Stakes.
