Dubawi has been enjoying a hugely successful spell of late, recording no fewer than four Black type performers in the past fortnight, and Europe’s leading first-season sire took his winners’ tally to 20 on 24 August when Brick Red dead-heated for the six-furlong maiden at Kempton.
Settled in mid division, the Andrew Balding-trained colt was switched to the outside and asked to quicken at the furlong marker. Showing an impressive turn of foot in the closing stages, Brick Red crossed the line alongside Haadeeth and the two could not be separated in the ensuing photograph.
Bred by Raimon Bloodstock, Brick Red is out of the Stakes-placed Caerleon mare Duchov, who has now produced four winners from four foals to race. Duchov is herself a half-sister to Stakes winner Sgt Pepper, and Evangeline – the dam of Exceed And Excel's G2 Lowther Stakes winner Infamous Angel.
Dubawi himself had one of his offpring make the frame in this year's Lowther, with Dubawi Heights taking third place in the race at York last week.
