Happy shows true Colours at Newmarket for Poet's Voice

Colour Me Happy brings up a baker's dozen of first-crop winners for Poet's Voice

Colour Me Happy, three times a runner-up on his first three starts, became the 13th individual first-crop winner for Poet's Voice when triumphing in a battle royal in a seven furlong maiden at Newmarket on Wednesday.

Trained by Karl Burke, Colour Me Happy raced close to the lead throughout before hitting the front with a over a furlong still to run. Joined on the lead by Wave Reviews, the pair settled down to scrap it out in a ding-dong fight to the line, with Colour Me Happy just gaining the upper hand at the finish.

The colt is the second foal out of the Stakes-placed juvenile Za Za Zoom, a sister to the useful sprinter Highland Colori and a half-sister to the G3 winner Genki.

Poet's Voice's first crop is headed by the Listed winner Whitman and the Stakes-placed Voice Of Love, and includes the multiple scorers Bathos, Montsarrat and Midnight Malibu.
