The G2 Prix Chaudenay was the opening race on Arc weekend, this year at Chantilly, and three-year-old Shamardal colt Doha Dream ensured the Darley stallions got off to a winning start when adding a third Stakes win to his record.
Settled just off the pace during the early stages, the Andre Fabre-trained colt took up the running two furlongs from home and just saw off the late challenge from Moonshiner to win by a short head.
Doha Dream now has five victories to his name, including the Listed Derby de l’Ouest and Listed Prix Frederic de Lagrange.
He was bred by Breeding Capital and Greenwood Lodge and is out of the King’s Best mare Crystal Reef, a half-sister to G1 Prix du Cadran winner Reefscape, plus Halling’s Coastal Path, whose five Group victories include the 2007 Prix Chaudenay.
Shamardal, who has 21 yearlings due to sell at next week’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, has sired 18 individual Stakes winners so far this year including G1 winners Dariyan, Speedy Boarding and Tryster.
