Rebel’s Romance was back in the winners’ enclosure following a scintillating victory in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic on Saturday, 30 March at Meydan, UAE. The six-year-old son of Dubawi was registering a ninth Black Type success of his career as he strode clear of the field to post a two length win in the 2400m contest.
Trained by Charlie-Appleby, Rebel’s Romance jumped smartly and was soon settled in second, travelling strongly throughout the race, he responded gamely when asked to quicken by William Buick. Hitting the front with just over 300m to run, Rebel’s Romance powered home to land his fourth top-flight win.
Rebel's Romance is a previous winner of the G2 UAE Derby and at four he landed three G1 races including the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Last month Rebel’s Romance returned to the track with a decisive three-length victory in the G3 H.H. The Amir Trophy at Doha, Qatar.
Owned and bred by Godolphin, Rebel’s Romance is one of four winners out of Stakes-performer, Minidress (Street Cry), herself an own-sister to G3 victor Volcanic Sky. They are out of the multiple Stakes-winning-mare, Short Skirt.
Dubawi, the sire of an incredible 57 individual G1 winners, has got off to a great start in 2024 with Rebel's Romance being joined by Group winners Warren Point, Siskany, Francesco Clemente and Military Law. Last year Dubawi sired five Group-winning juveniles, including the unbeaten colt, Henry Longfellow, who landed the G1 National Stakes and Ancient Wisdom, who took the G1 Futurity Trophy.
