Finjaan (pictured) made an eye-catching start to his racing career in May and he confirmed that early promise when landing a game win in the G3 Molecomb Stakes on the first day of Glorious Goodwood.
The Royal Applause colt runs in the colours of his breeder, Sheikh Hamdan and is out of the Dayjur mare Alhufoof. As highlighted in the 'For the notebook' slot on this website, Finjaan's last-to-first victory on debut at Newmarket was impressive indeed and his only other previous start saw him finish runner-up in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown on unsuitably wet ground.
A length and a half behind Finjaan in third was Kheleyf's Super Sprint-winning filly, Jargelle, who made much of the early pace and ran on resolutely for her black type which she added to the valuable prize won just ten days ago at Newbury.
Her sire is the leading sire of two-year-olds in Europe as well as leading the freshman charge and now has 20 individual winners to his name, with Inheritor's Beverley victory the latest on his ever-growing list. Kheleyf’s July Stakes runner-up Sayif runs in Wednesday’s G2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.
Sanbuch, by Tobougg, was also victorious at Goodwood, winning the Detica Summer Stakes over 1m6f. In 12 starts, the consistent four-year-old colt, who won this race off a rating of 105, has only been out of the first four once, on his debut at two. This was his second consecutuve win at Glorious Goodwood and he led home Bauer (Halling), to give trainer Luca Cumani the quinella. Both horses hold entries for the valuable Ebor Handicap at York in August.
