First-season sire Shamardal, whose son Shakespearean landed the G3 Solario Stakes on Saturday, recorded his 11th individual European winner on 26 August when Lope de Vega took the seven-and-a-half furlong maiden in Deauville.
Settled just off the pace, the Andre Fabre-trained colt hit the front in the home straight and running on well, drew clear of his rivals to win by two-and-a-half lengths.
Bred by Ammerland Verwaltung, he is out of the G3 winner Lady Vettori, who is also dam of Cadeaux Genereux’s multiple Stakes winner Bal de la Rose.
Of Shamardal’s 11 winners, no fewer than seven are rated over 80 by Timeform with two of those – Arctic and Shakespearean rated 110p and 105p respectively.
