Night Of Thunder’s talented daughter Highfield Princess added a ninth career win and a second Stakes victory to her record on Wednesday, 11 May when storming to victory in the six-furlong Duke Of York Stakes on the opening day of York’s Dante meeting.
Ridden prominently throughout under Jason Hart, John Quinn’s charge began to challenge for the lead at the halfway mark, before taking up the running two furlongs from home. Once in front, she was never seriously challenged and eventually won by almost three lengths from Spycatcher, with previous G2 winner and multiple G1 placegetter Minzaal back in third.
Highfield Princess, who won the Listed Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes last July, has now won twice on the bounce and could now head to Royal Ascot, where she holds an entry in the G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes.
Bred by Trainers House Enterprises Ltd, Highfield Princess is out of the winning Danehill mare Pure Illusion, making her a half-sister to Lohnro’s G2 July Stakes winner and G1 Middle Park Stakes third Cardsharp.
She becomes the third Stakes winner so far in May for Night Of Thunder, following Lola Showgirl’s victory in the G3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes and a third victory at Black Type level for Rumbles Of Thunder.
