Godolphin filly Laugh Aloud (Dubawi) ensured the Darley stallions dominated in the day’s Black type contests at Goodwood on 6 May, as she led home a Darley-sired trifecta in the Listed Conqueror Stakes ahead of her paternal half-sister Intimation and Desert Haze (New Approach). Her victory followed Teofilo filly Ajman Princess's earlier win in the Listed Daisy Warwick Stakes.
Sent straight to the front under Jimmy Fortune, Laugh Aloud (who is trained by John Gosden) dictated the pace throughout the one-mile contest and was never seriously challenged, winning by three and a quarter lengths from Intimation, who hung under pressure in the home straight. Four-year-old New Approach filly Desert Haze finished fast to take third and add further Black type to her record.
Laugh Aloud broke her maiden by no fewer than seven lengths last July and rounded off her three-year-old campaign with victory in the Listed Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket. She holds an entry in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Laugh Aloud is out of the Group-placed Singspiel mare Opera Comique, making her a half-sister to G1 Arlington Million winner Debussy. Opera Comique is herself a half-sister to G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Belmez.
Dubawi has now sired 15 Black type performers this year, headed by G1 Gulfstream Park Turf winner Almanaar. His son Zarak finished a very close second to Cloth Of Stars in Monday’s G1 Prix Ganay – the meeting which also saw fellow Dubawi colt Wolf Country take the Listed Prix de l’Avre.
Sire of 27 G1 winners to date, Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £250,000 October 1st SLF.
