Raven’s Pass recorded a new Black Type winner in fine style on Oaks day at Epsom on Friday, 1 June 2018, when his three-year-old son Lake Volta put up a tenacious performance to win the Listed Surrey Stakes.
Soon in front under Silvestre de Sousa, Mark Johnston’s charge was in command throughout the seven-furlong contest and was never seriously troubled once the field began to quicken, cruising home to win by four and a half lengths. Exceed And Excel’s lightly raced son Aurum kept on well for second, with Rufus King (Iffraaj) taking third.
Lake Volta is out of the Stakes-placed Shamardal mare Ghanaian, herself a half-sister to Listed winner Free Roses. Ghanaian has a 2018 foal by New Approach.
Raven’s Pass is also sire of smart Japanese performer Tower Of London (third in the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes last year), plus his southern hemisphere flagbearer and multiple Group winner Big Duke.
Raven’s Pass stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000, Oct 1, SLF.
