The John Musker Fillies’ Stakes is Yarmouth’s feature race of the season and the 10-furlong contest was won in some style on Wednesday, 19 September by three-year-old Shamardal filly Sheikh Reika, with Iffraaj’s daughter Rasima taking second place.
Sheikha Reika was settled just off the lead under Andrea Atzeni, before taking up the running three furlongs from home. Once asked to quicken with a furlong left to run, she moved clear with consummate ease, eventually winning by four and a half lengths from stablemate Rasima.
Bred by Mark Johnston, Sheikha Reika is out of the winning Tobougg mare Screen Star, making her a full sister to G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lumiere.
Shamardal is also sire this year of G1 King’s Stand Stakes winner Blue Point, plus G1-winning Hong Kong sensation Pakistan Star. His son Emaraaty Ana won last month’s G2 Gimcrack Stakes, while Aljazzi contributed to a superb Royal Ascot for her sire when landing the G2 Duke Of Cambridge.
