Leading agent Peter Doyle has described Green Desert as having ‘something of a magic touch with his sire sons’. That comment is certainly true of Kheleyf: with 30 winners this season, he heads not just the freshman list but also the overall sires of two-year-olds and is currently one ahead of Danehill Dancer.
Doyle was happy to back up his claim by signing for the top lot of the day at the Goffs foal sale on Tuesday, a colt by another son of Green Desert, Byron, out of the French winner Topiary. The colt, from Byron’s first crop, was consigned by Ballinacurra Stud and sold for €58,000.
Byron’s fellow Darley stallion Iffraaj was also also represented among the Ballinacurra draft. His colt out of the Daylami mare Nilassiba was judged to be a good pinhooking prospect by Liam Cashman of Rathbarry Stud, who bought him for €42,000.
Byron stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket at a fee of £4,000 while Iffraaj is at Kildangan Stud, Co Kildare and stands for €8,000, both October 1 Special Live Foal. For further information please call the nomionations team in the UK on +44 (0)1638 730070 or in Ireland on +353 (0)45 527600.
