Shamardal’s stunning five-year-old son Blue Point continued his dominance in the desert when landing his second Group contest of 2019 in the G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint. The very easy winner of the G2 Meydan Sprint last month, he again travelled into the contest on the bridle before easing clear to win with consummate ease.
This was the third successive win in the race for a Charlie Appleby trained colt after Jungle Cat’s victories over the past two seasons.
Bred by Oak Lodge Stud and bought as a yearling for 200,000Gns, he is a half-brother to Group-winning juvenile Formosina and from the family of five-time Group winner Tumbleweed Ridge. His dam, Scarlett Rose is by the Champion sprinter Royal Applause.
Blue Point is one of 21 top-flight winners sired by Shamardal, including dual Classic winner Lope de Vega, who himself has sired the European Champion juvenile Belardo.
Jungle Cat and Belardo both stand at Kildangan Stud at fees of €8,000 and €10,000, Oct 1, SLF.
