Beautiful Surprise, a first crop daughter of Ribchester, made a winning debut at Epsom on Monday, 30 August. Sent off favourite in the seven furlong maiden contest, the Hugo Palmer-trained filly made good headway with a furlong to travel, staying on gamely in the final strides to win by a head.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Beautiful Surprise is the second foal out of the winning Shamardal mare Lovely Surprise, a half-sister to the Stakes-placed Sudden Wonder. They are out of King’s Best’s G1 Premio Lydia Tesio winner Dubai Surprise, the best performer out of an unraced half-sister to G2 winner Athyka.
Champion miler Ribchester is now the sire of 11 individual first crop winners including the three-time winner Flaming Rib.
