First-season sire Ribchester added a 13th winner to his record when his daughter Canterbury Bell landed a seven-furlong Novice at Newmarket on Wednesday, 20 October. Although not the first horse past the post, Canterbury Bell was awarded the race after a stewards’ enquiry.
In the hands of Tom Marquand, the filly chased the leaders on the outer, when pushed along two furlongs out she kept on well in the final furlong.
Owned and bred by Jon and Julia Aisbitt, the William Haggis-trained filly is a half-sister to Listed winner and G3 placed Lilac Road, being out of the Stakes-placed Shamardal mare Lavender Lane, herself a half-sister to G2 winner Sumbal and Listed winner Lily Passion.
Champion miler Ribchester is now the sire of 13 individual first-crop winners including the three-time winner Flaming Rib. His yearlings have also proved very popular at the sales in recent weeks, selling for up to 350,000gns.
