Amaron a new Classic contender for Shamardal

Colt wins G3 Dr Busch Memorial and is now favourite for the German Guineas

Amaron, a three-year-old son of Shamardal, threw himself into contention for the German Classics on 22 April when landing the G3 Dr Busch Memorial, run over a mile and half a furlong at Krefeld.

This was the second victory at Group level for Andreas Lowe’s charge, who also won the G3 Zukunfts-Rennen as a juvenile. He has now won three times and placed once from four starts and is now joint-favourite for the German 2,000 Guineas, due to take place next month.

Bred by Genesis Green Stud, Amaron is the first foal to race out of the Bertolini mare Amandalini, herself a half-sister to G2 winner and G1 placegetter Persianlux.

Amaron was one of nine individual Group winners for Shamardal last year, headed by G1 Premio Roma winner Zazou – who won the Dr Busch Memorial himself in 2010.
