Aljazzi, a three-year-old daughter of Shamardal trained in Newmarket by Marco Botti, gained a very valuable Stakes victory on Saturday 6 August when taking the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes. Run over a mile at Haydock Park, she always had a good position behind the leaders and after being pulled out a furlong from home, she ran on very well to beat Mix And Mingle (Exceed And Excel) by a neck.
Owned and bred by Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar, she is the first foal of the multiple Stakes-winning mare Nouriya (Danehill Dancer), who hails from the extended family of top miler Zafeen.
Aljazzi is the 16th individual Stakes winner of 2016 for top Irish-based stallion Shamardal. Eight of these have won at Group level including top-flight scorers Dariyan and Tryster, leading fillies Usherette and Speedy Boarding and Australian G2-winner Bow Creek.
