Night Of Thunder’s outstanding season continued on Monday, 21 October when his two-year-old son Tuscan Hills ran out the very impressive winner of the one-mile Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract.
Always prominent under David Egan, Tuscan Hills took the lead with two furlongs left to run and from then on the result was never in doubt as he eased further and further clear, eventually winning by four and three-quarter lengths. He broke his maiden at Thirsk on 30 August, winning by almost three lengths. He holds an entry in next year’s Irish 2,000 Guineas.
Bred by John Richard Wheeler, Tuscan Hills is out of the Sea The Stars mare Taqleed, herself a daughter of Champion three-year-old and G1 winner Eswarah. Taqleed has produced three winners from three foals to race, including fellow Black Type winner Torpedo Blu.
Night Of Thunder has enjoyed an outstanding year, siring two new G1 winners in Economics and unbeaten Fillies’ Mile heroine Desert Flower. Among his 16 Stakes winners in 2024 are seven Group winners, including Fairy Godmother and unbeaten colt Ombudsman.
He has also proved very popular in the sales ring, averaging €388,000, with a top price of 900,000 guineas.
