First-season sire Earthlight sired a new winner as his son Olympus Point continued his progression when winning comfortably at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course on Thursday, 26 September.
Making his fourth start after three promising placed efforts, Olympus Point took another step forward on his first start over a mile. Always placed handily, William Buick asked for an effort two furlongs out and the colt responded well to run out a comfortable three-length winner for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby.

Bred by Oak Lodge Stud, the 260,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 purchase is out of Royal Applause mare Scarlett Rose, making him a three-parts brother to Champion sprinter and now Champion first-season sire Blue Point, as well as G2 Railway Stakes winner Formosina.
Earthlight has made a very promising start to his stud career, becoming the fastest stallion from the Shamardal line to sire a Group winner when Daylight followed in her father’s footsteps by winning the G3 Prix de Cabourg, before an excellent third in the G1 Prix Morny. She could become Earthlight’s first G1 winner when she lines up in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Later on the card, Dubawi’s Al Nayyir backed up an excellent second in the G2 Londsdale Cup when running away with the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes. Travelling strongly throughout, he eased to the front two furlongs from home and quickly drew well clear, scoring by an eased down eight lengths. He could head for the G2 Long Distance Cup on Champions Day at Ascot next.
It was a 35th Black Type success in 2024 for his sire Dubawi, more than any other stallion in the world.
