Too Darn Hot filly scores maiden victory at Stakes level

Silmarillion travels south to overpower her Atlantic Jewel rivals at The Valley

Improving Sydney three-year-old Silmarillion dodged leg two of the Darley Princess Series at Randwick on Saturday, 7 September to contest the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes at The Valley with brilliant results.

Beautifully ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Silmarillion peeled outside the leaders on the home turn and raced past Superlicious to win by three-quarters of a length. Sakima was a half-length away in third place.

Out of Australian mare Savanna, who is also the dam of G1 winner Kementari and Stakes winner Telperion, Silmarillion had five starts for four placings, including a close second to Ameena in the G3 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick last month, before Saturday.

The filly has a yearling half-sister by Pinatubo and her dam revisited Too Darn Hot last November.

The Darley stallion is proving a sensation at stud, already siring 79 winners of 124 races – including 13 Stakes winners of 21 Black-Type events. In the past six weeks, Simmering won Group races at Ascot in England and at Deauville in France.
