Earthlight added another new winner to his record on Sunday, 23 June when his son Cayman Tai gained a deserved maiden victory, having placed second on each of his previous three starts, when landing the five-furlong novice at Ffos Las.
Dropping back to five furlongs after running over six on his last two outings, the Richard Hannon-trained colt raced keenly in second and took up the lead with a furlong and a half to run. Challenged by Hettie Jack in the final furlong, Cayman Tai held on gamely to shed his maiden tag.
Bred by Knockainey Stud, Cayman Tai is a Goffs UK Doncaster Premier Yearling Sales purchase. He is a half-brother to G3-scorer, Zona Verde. They are out of the winning Dark Angel mare, Namibie who is daughter of G3-winner, Mambia.
Earthlight, who won both the G1 Prix Morny and G1 Middle Park Stakes to become Champion two-year-old colt in France, is now the sire of five individual winners. They are headed by Daylight who made a promising start to her career when winning by four and a half lengths on debut, she also finished third in the G3 Prix du Bois on her second start last weekend. Earthlight’s other winners include Mr Lightside, who won comfortably at Redcar yesterday afternoon, Xanthe and Lady Lightning.
