Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale concluded last week, and saw excellent results for a number of the Darley stallions, including tremendous success for all three of Darley’s first-crop sires.
For all first-crop sires with more than one lot sold, the Darley stallions filled the first three places for average sales price.
Ghaiyyath led the way with an average of 265,000 guineas, including a top-priced lot of 1,050,000 guineas. This figure is the highest price paid for a first-crop colt in the last 20 seasons.
Ghaiyyath was closely followed by Pinatubo, whose yearlings averaged an impressive 252,000 guineas, including a top priced lot of 500,000 guineas - over 14 times his fee.
Undefeated Champion juvenile Earthlight also saw impressive results with his first crop throughout the week, with an average sales price of 191,000 guineas, over nine times his 2021 covering fee of €20,000.
The success of Europe’s leading first-season sire Blue Point has certainly not gone unnoticed and his sales average of 293,000 guineas was well above the overall average for the sale at 244,000 guineas. His top-priced lot of 1.5 million guineas was the third highest price paid for any yearling at the sale.
Book 1 came in the week following Ace Impact’s brilliant win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and his sire Cracksman had just one lot going under the hammer. The colt, a half-brother to 2023 Marble Hill Stakes winner Givemethebeatboys, was knocked down for 410,000 guineas, almost 25 times his covering fee.
The ever-impressive Teofilo also saw notable success. Three lots were offered by the sire, with all finding homes for an impressive average of 290,000 guineas and a median of 370,000 guineas - over 10 times his fee.
Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale is currently underway, and the Darley stallions are well represented throughout.
