Too Darn Hot’s progressive juvenile daughter, Simmering, took another step forward in her career when easing clear to record a three-length victory in the G2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville, France on Saturday, 17 August.
Stepping up to seven furlongs, the Ollie Sangster-trained filly jumped nicely from the gates and was settled towards the rear of the field. Travelling smoothly into contention with just over 500m to run, Simmering eased her way through the field and took up the lead entering the final 200m. She soon went clear to post her second Black Type victory in three weeks.

Simmering, who is owned by Al Shaqab Racing was having her fourth career start. Finishing a promising third in novice company on debut at York in May, Simmering then headed to Royal Ascot where she lost nothing in defeat when the three-quarter length runner-up to Fairy Godmother (Night Of Thunder) in the G3 Albany Stakes. She returned to Ascot the following month where she shed her maiden tag when winning the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes. A step up to G1 level is likely to be the next target for this exciting filly, who holds an entry for the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at the end of September.
Bred in Great Britain by Lofts Hall Stud, Simmering was a Tattersalls October Yearling Sale book 2 purchase. She is the third foal out of the winning-mare, Cashla Bay (Fastnet Rock), herself a daughter of G3 Summer Stakes winner, Rose Blossom.
Too Darn Hot is having another successful year. Not only was he crowned leading first season sire in Australia following two exciting G1 victories by his son, Broadsiding, but he also sired his first European Classic winner when his first-crop daughter, Fallen Angel, landed the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas. So far this year Too Darn Hot has sired 53 individual winners, with 10 of those being Black Type scorers.
