Hotazhell too good in G2 Beresford Stakes in Ireland

Too Darn Hot's juvenile son records second Black Type victory

Hotazhell showed great determination to land the G2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh, Ireland on Saturday, 28 September, continuing a fantastic day for his sire Too Darn Hot, who earlier in the day was the sire of Broadsiding and Perspiration who won the G1 Golden Rose and Listed Heritage Stakes respectively at Rosehill Gardens in Australia.

Trained by Jessica Harrington, Hotazhell, who is already a G3 winner, broke well from the stalls and although keen early, he was soon settled to travel in third. Ridden along Hotazhell improved his position with two furlongs to run and was asked for an effort in the closing stages, he battled gamely to the line to register a three-quarter length victory in the mile contest.

This was a third career win for Hotazhell, who is owned by the Silverton Hill Partnership. He got off the mark with a maiden win at the Curragh in June and followed up with a decisive victory in the G3 Tyros Stakes a few weeks later at Leopardstown.

Bred by Blue Diamond Stud Farm (UK) Ltd, Hotazhell was a 200,000gns Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up purchase. He is one of four winners out of the winning Danehill Dancer mare, Azenzar, herself a half-sister to Champion filly, Alexander Goldrun.

Too Darn Hot is enjoying another successful year, siring 12 Black Type winners so far, including Fallen Angel who was his first Classic winner when she was victorious in the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas earlier in the season.

Flying the flag for Too Darn Hot in Australia is Broadsiding, who was crowned NSW Champion two-year-old, following two G1 victories during his juvenile campaign.  He made a successful return to racing today with a stylish performance to land the G1 Golden Rose.
