Singspiel's daughter Gower Song has put up some extremely creditable performances during this year’s Dubai Carnival and the five-year-old mare gained a well-deserved victory on Super Thursday, storming home to land the G3 Dubai City Of Gold.
Settled in third last on the rail, David Elsworth’s charge travelled well throughout the 12-furlong contest and under a canny ride from jockey Richard Hills, swept home to finish half a length ahead of Mourilyan (winner of both his previous starts in the UAE), with Oracle West a further head back in third.
Gower Song has now provided her owners Usk Valley Stud with six wins and rounded off her four-year-old campaign last year with victory in the Listed Gillies Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster. Bred by R E Crutchley, she is the best foal out of the winning Kalaglow mare Gleaming Water and is from the immediate family of Halling's Classic-placed daughter, Something Exciting.
Singspiel, who stands at Dalham Hall Stud, is now sire of 26 individual Group winners, including last year’s Breeders’ Cup heroine Lahudood.
