Lead Artist, a three-year-old son of Dubawi, added a second Black Type win to his c.v. as he held on gamely to score in the G3 Darley Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, 12 October.
The lightly-raced colt, who is trained by John & Thady Gosden, jumped well from the gates and was soon settled mid-field by Kieran Shoemark. Switched in for a run going into the dip, he picked up the lead entering the final two furlongs and holding off a challenge from the favourite, Liberty Lane, he went on to record a smart length and a half win in this nine-furlong contest.

This was a third win for Lead Artist, whose previous two wins have been over a mile, including a three-quarter length victory in the G3 Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in August.
Owned and bred by Juddmonte, Lead Artist is the first foal out the G2 Prix de Sandringham victrix, Obligate (Frankel). She also has a filly foal by Dubawi.
Dubawi has so far sired 28 individual Black Type scorers this year, including two Classic winners – Notable Speech (G1 2,000 Guineas) and Ezeliya (G1 Epsom Oaks), whilst his globe-trotting son, Rebel’s Romance has won at the highest level three times this year. Dubawi’s unbeaten juvenile son, Ancient Truth lines up in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes later this afternoon.
