Dawn Approach recorded his first winner on Saturday when Haddaf easily triumphed in a five-furlong novice contest at Newcastle.
James Tate's charge had already showcased his talents when placed in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown in May, and Saturday's race proved an excellent opportunity for him to break his maiden. The colt cruised into the lead with half the race still to run and easily pulled well clear to score by four lengths.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Haddaf is a half-brother to Lamar (Cape Cross), winner of the Listed Fleur de Lys Stakes. The pair are out of the G1-placed Cozzene mare Deveron.
Dawn Approach was himself the undefeated European Champion juvenile of his year, winning six times including both the G1 National Stakes and the G1 Dewhurst. At three, he added to his G1 haul with victories in the 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace.
Dawn Approach stands at Kildangan Stud.
