Cutlass Bay, a four-year-old son of Halling (pictured), returned to the track in successful fashion on 11 April, winning the G2 Prix d’Harcourt at Longchamp.
Cutlass Bay is now unbeaten in four starts and has won twice at G2 level, having beaten subsequent G1 winner and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe third Cavalryman (also by Halling) in the Prix Greffulhe last May. The Andre-Fabre-trained colt will now head for the G1 Prix Ganay on 2 May, although he also holds an entry in the Coronation Cup.
Bred by Darley, Cutlass Bay is out of the winning Danzig mare Dunnes River, making him a full brother to King Edward VII Stakes winner Boscobel.
Earlier on the Longchamp card, Baine, a three-year-old daughter of Darley stallion Country Reel, won her first Black type contest and became the second Stakes winner for her sire when landing the Listed Prix Finlande.
This was the fourth victory in just five starts for Baine, who was beaten just a head on her only defeat last November. She has now won twice this year and holds an entry in next month’s Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.
Bred by M Rohaut-Leger and F Rohaut (who also trains the filly), she is out of the multiple winner Benzolina (Second Empire).
Country Reel stands at Haras du Logis at a fee of €4,500 October 1st terms.
Also at Longchamp, Tiger Hill’s impeccably-bred son Rewilding made a promising start to his three-year-old campaign when finishing a very creditable second in the G2 Prix Noailles at Longchamp.
Bred by Watership Down Stud, Rewilding is out of the G1-winning Top Ville mare Darara, making him a half-brother to four G1 winners including Singspiel’s outstanding daughter Dar Re Mi who also made an outstanding start to 2010 when landing the Dubai Sheema Classic on World Cup night at Meydan.
Rewilding is from Tiger Hill’s first Darley-sired crop, a high-class group that also includes Petrushka’s unbeaten daughter Padmini. Tiger Hill also has some exciting juveniles to look forward to this year, with his crop including half-siblings to G1 winners Ibn Khaldun and Primo Valentino.
