Masamah got his sire Exceed And Excel off the mark in some style on the first day of York’s May meeting with a length-and-three-quarter victory on his racecourse debut.
Racing apart from his four rivals, all of whom had previous racing experience, the Ed Dunlop-trained colt, who races in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, took up the lead with a furlong (200m) to run to claim the five-furlong (1000m) event easily.
Bred in partnership by Stanley Estate & Stud Company and Mount Coote Stud, Masamah was a 60,000gns yearling and is the third foal of Bethesda (Distant Relative), who has already bred a juvenile winner in Fluttering Rose.
Exceed And Excel has made a superb start to his stud career in his native Australia where he is leading first-season sire with 12 individual winners and five stakes winners, including Sugar Babe and Exceedingly Good.
