The rampant Kheleyf celebrated a quickfire across-the-card treble when Kheylide, Deposer and Touching brought his tally of winners to fifteen. The young stallion, who now leads the European first-season sires' table, has had six winners in the last week and his first winner, Percolator, who has now scored four times, won a G3 at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday, breaking the track record in the process. On Thursday, another Kheleyf youngster, Sayif, was runner-up by a short-head in the G2 July Stkes on his second start.
Royal Applause filly Please Sing lit up an otherwise dreary July Course with an impressive burst of acceleration to win the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes on the first day of Newmarket’s July meeting. An 80,000gns yearling out of the Persian Bold mare Persian Song, Please Sing was bred by Lennie Peacock in Middleham. She won on her debut at Leicester at the end of May and is now a Pattern winner on only her third start.
Ahla Wasahl, by Dubai Destination, was another previous winner making her third racecourse appearance and she finished less than two lengths off the winner to take third. The Dachel Stud-bred filly is out of the winning sprinter In Full Cry (Seattle Slew).
Last word must go to Cape Cross's seven-time G1-winning daughter Seachange (pictured), who brought the curtain down on her magnificent career with a brave fourth place in the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. Her phenomenal racing record at the time of her retirement to the paddocks of her owner/breeder Dick Karreman at The Oaks Stud in New Zealand stands at 28 runs for 14 wins and eight places. A truly great achievement.
