Exceed And Excel sired his tenth European winner when Sirenuse was victorious at Ripon on Saturday. Making his second start, he was always prominent over the 1000m trip and battled well to the line to win by a neck.
Bred by David Jamison Bloodstock and G Roddick, Sirenuse is the first foal of winning Distant View mare, Cefira, who also has a yearling by fellow Darley stallion Bertolini. She hails from a very fast family with top-class sprinters Abou Zouz, Millyant and Prince Sabo being close relatives.
Another Darley stallion hitting the headlines on Saturday was Singspiel when he sired the first two home (Dar Re Mi beating Folk Opera) in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket.
The winner is owned and bred by Lord Lloyd-Webber and was gaining her first Stakes success, after only being beaten a nose and a head into third in a G2 in France last time out.
She is superbly bred, being out of the G1 winning mare Darara (a half-sister to Darshaan) and a half-sister to three other Black-Type winners including the Champion Hong Kong performer Diaghilev.
It has been another excellent year for Singspiel, who has sired eighteen Stakes horses so far from his European crops.
