Kheleyf filly scores January three-timer

Tough and consistent Kheley claims a trio of victories in just sixteen days

Kheley may not have been one of the thirty juvenile winners that helped make Kheleyf leading first-crop sire in Europe in 2008 but she has more than made up for that fact by recording three wins since the new year began - the last two coming on consecutive days.

Bred by Matt Gilsenan from the Nashwan mare Namesake, Kheley was no slouch as a two-year-old - she ran eight times and was placed on five occasions - and trainer Mark Brisbourne declared after her most recent win on Friday, 23 January that she had been suffering from a virus for part of last season.

Her recovery has left her a force to be reckoned with on the all-weather this winter. She started her winning spree on 7 January, scoring over six furlongs, and was then second over course and distance just five days later. Switched to Kempton on 22 January, she once again got her head in front, beating Sorrel Ridge by three-quarters of a length. It was the same gelding who chased her home the next day back at Wolverhampton where she claimed her third victory of a busy career to date.

Kheleyf, whose first-crop runners also include the G3 winner Percolator, G1-placed Sayif and Listed winners Captain Ramius and Playfellow, stands at Kildangan Stud for €12,000 (October 1, Spcial Live Foal).
