Sea The Stars, the sensational son of Cape Cross, became the first horse ever to win the Guineas, the Derby, the Eclipse and the Juddmonte International on 18 August with an outstanding victory on the Knavesmire.
Settled off the generous early pace set by Georgebernardshaw and Set Sail, Sea The Stars and Mastercraftsman drew clear with three furlongs left to run. Whilst Mastercraftsman briefly seemed to take charge of the race, it was simply a matter of time before John Oxx’s charge engaged top gear and taking the lead inside the final furlong, was running on at the finish and crossed the line a length ahead of his rival. His winning time of 2:05.29 was almost a second faster than the previous course record.
If the ground is suitable, his next target will be the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on 5 September.
Owned and bred by the Tsui family, Sea The Stars can now be described as the most successful racehorse out of the great Urban Sea, dam of no fewer than seven Black type winners and four G1 winners including Galileo.
Cape Cross is currently leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland by prize money and has sired a further seven Black type winners so far this year.
