As a Group One winner in four different countries, Germany’s champion three-year-old Shirocco was much sought after on his retirement to Dalham Hall Stud for only £10,000. His first yearlings have already been tested at France’s premier yearling sale at Arqana in August with pleasing results. Fourteen of his youngsters were sold for an average of €64,429, a figure which bodes well for those yet to come at Tattersalls and Goffs.
The Orby Sale, which runs from 29 September to 1 October, features two Shirocco yearlings. Lot 67 is a filly from Airlie Stud’s Listed-winning Nureyev mare Stunning while Rathmore Stud consigns lot 260, a colt out of Glorious (Nashwan), who is already the producer of five winners.
The following week sees the start of the prestigious October Book 1 at Tattersalls (6 to 8 October), which will include 12 yearlings by the young Darley stallion.
On the opening day, Hawthorn Villa Stud sends a chestnut colt, already named Royal Rubin (lot 23), who is a three-parts brother to the G1 Beverly D Stakes winner Royal Highness (by Monsun). This is also the family of Dubai World Cup winner Electrocutionist and champion stayer Ardross.
Cheveley Park Stud is selling a half-brother to the Listed winners Ice Palace and Portal and to the dam of Spacious as lot 175. The bay colt is out of the winning Shirley Heights mare White Palace.
German Group Two winner Wild Side has produced a Shirocco filly named Wild Coco (lot 178) who will be consigned by Ronald Rauscher, and Deer Forest Stud offer another filly from the Red Ransom mare Maharani (lot 548), who is a full-sister to G2 Champagne Stakes winner Sri Pekan.
A February-foaled colt out of Mantesera, a daughter of Lucayan Princess, whose offspring also include the Group winners Warrsan, Luso, Needle Gun and Cloud Castle, sells on the third day of Book 1 as lot 553. Twenty lots later comes a son of the Oaks-placed Mezzogiorno, who has already produced the black-type winner Monturani and Monavanna. Later on Thursday, sees the first foal of Warwickshire Oaks winner Power Girl, a February-born filly, who is to be sold as lot 669 by Jamie Railton on behalf of Laundry Cottage Stud.
Another nine of Shirocco’s youngsters come under the spotlight in October Book 2, which takes place from 12 to 14 October. These include a colt out of Compton Admiral’s full-sister So Admirable (lot 781), a filly out of Manda Hill (lot 1333), whose dam Mandamou is a half-sister to Manduro’s dam Mandellicht, and a half-brother to the Melbourne Cup-bound Munsef (lot 1345).
A further three Shirocco yearlings will be offered at October Book 3 (15 and 16 October), including a grandson of Group Three winner Anno Luce out of the winning Belong To Me mare Angeleno (lot 1849).
