First-season sire Layman (pictured) recorded his fourth individual winner in style on 30 June, when his son Beowulf demonstrated an impressive turn of foot close to home to land the €29,000 Prix Pharel at Maisons-Laffitte.
The Pascal Bary-trained colt took the seven-furlong conditions race by a length and finished second on his racecourse debut earlier this month. Bred by Dr Georges Sandor, he becomes the fifth winner out of the Woodman mare Belga Wood.
His victory comes just a day after Iffraaj, currently joint-leading first-season sire in Britain and Ireland, further added to his number of winners when his daughter Stay Alive also won on her debut, landing a 1200m maiden in Milan.
Bred by Grundy Bloodstock, Stay Alive is out of the Stakes-placed mare Pursuit Of Life – also dam of G3 winner Gimmy.
