First Stakes winner for Librettist

Libranno lands the G2 July Stakes at Newmarket; Corsica (Cape Cross) wins the G3 Bahrain Stakes on the same card

First-season sire Librettist recorded his first Black type winner in style on 8 July when Libranno led practically all the way to land the G2 July Stakes, run over six furlongs at Newmarket’s July course.

Now unbeaten in two starts, the Richard Hannon-trained colt won on his debut on 29 May.

Owned and bred by O McDowell, Libranno is out of the winning Singspiel mare Annabelle Ja, who has a yearling filly by Shirocco and a 2010 filly by Tiger Hill.

Earlier on the card, Cape Cross recorded his sixth individual Group winner of the year, when three-year-old colt Corsica posted a gutsy performance to take the 13-furlong Bahrain Trophy.

Sent off the 15-8 favourite, Corsica was taken to the middle of the track under Frankie Dettori and taking the lead as they hit the rising ground, ran on superbly to win by three-quarters of a length.

Bred by Epona Bloodstock Ltd and P A Byrne, Corsica is out of the Stakes-placed Persian Bold mare Cedar Sea, a half-sister to Coventry Stakes winner CD Europe.

Cape Cross has now sired 31 individual Group winners, including seven at the highest level.
