Behkabad, a wonderfully consistent and hugely talented son of Cape Cross, provided his sire with his eighth individual winner at the highest level when storming down the Longchamp straight to land the G1 Grand Prix de Paris on 14 July.
Settled just off the pace under Gerald Mosse, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt was always travelling smoothly and once asked to quicken was soon in front and easily held the late challenge of Planteur to win by three-quarters of a length.
Owned and bred by HH The Aga Khan, Behkabad is out of the G2-winning, G1-placed Kris mare Behkara and has now recorded five wins, a third and a fourth (in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club, won by Shamardal's Lope de Vega) in just seven starts. He will now be aimed at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, where he will aim to become the second consecutive winner of the race for Cape Cross, following Sea The Stars outstanding victory in 2009 when he recorded his sixth straught G1 win.
He becomes the second G1 winner this year for Cape Cross, following Able One’s victory in the Champions Mile at Sha Tin in April. Cape Cross has sired a further eight Black type winners and seven Black type performers in 2010.
