Halling recorded his 21st individual Group winner in impressive fashion on the third day of Goodwood’s glorious meeting, when his four-year-old daughter Eastern Aria landed the G3 Lillie Langtry Stakes.
Settled just off the pace under Richard Hills, Eastern Aria was sent to the front with three furlongs left to run and drew clear to win by two and three-quarter lengths in a new course record time.
This was the second consecutive Black type victory for Mark Johnston’s charge, who took the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at HQ earlier this month. She will be aimed at the G1 Canadian International, due to be run at Woodbine on 16 October.
Bred in the UAE by Darley, Eastern Aria is out of the winning Danzig mare Badraan.
Also on Thursday, Europe’s leading first-season sire Iffraaj notched his 19th individual winner when the Richard Hannon-trained Kalahaag landed the seven-furlong fillies’ maiden.
She was bred by Mrs Clodagh McStay and is out of the winning In The Wings mare Verbania, herself a daughter of G3 winner Mackla.
Iffraaj is also sire of Stakes-placed duo Free Art and Zacynthus, plus unbeaten colt Wootton Bassett – rated 95p by Timeform.
