Makfi, from the first crop of leading young sire Dubawi, recorded his second win at the highest level on 15 August when he emulated both his sire and his grandsire - the great Dubai Millennium - to take the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.
Settled off the pace under Christophe Soumillon, the Mikel Delzangles-trained colt made light work of the heavy going, sweeping past his rivals in the home straight and drew clear close to home to win by two and a half lengths from none other than Goldikova, with Paco Boy taking third place.
Makfi has now won four times from just five starts, with his previous G1 victory coming in this year’s 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket (pictured).
Bred by Shadwell and now owned by Mathieu Offenstadt, Makfi is the first foal to race out of the unraced Green Desert mare Dhelaal, herself a half-sister to Alhaarth.
Also on Sunday at Deauville, Dubawi's three-year-old daughter Dubase became her sire's 12th individual Stakes winner, landing the one-mile Listed Prix Grand Handicap De Deauville.
Dubawi is enjoying a truly outstanding year, siring no fewer than 11 individual Stakes winners – seven of whom have won at Group level, including fellow G1 winner Happy Archer.
Meanwhile at Bath, King's Best's three-year-old daughter Sajjhaa gained her first Black type when leading all the way to land the Listed Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes at Bath, while leading first-season sire Iffraaj recorded his 24th individual winner when Truly Genius won on his racecourse debut at Dundalk.
